Summer 2008 |
|
When will the rain stop.
August is drawing to a close when will the sun shine? As we wait patiently the grass grows up through the hay waiting for sunshine to turn it crisp, the oil seed rape is ready but soggy and barley half cut the joys of farming life.

Wettest summer on record |
|
After such a great lambing period in April the weather just went down hill, at one point in July we were six weeks behind here at Lorbottle struggling to get the ewes sheared, will we cut some grass down for hay and silage!!
The winter barley was changing colour fast. Leslie eventually working on the theory that if we cut the grass down in the wet that we would eventually get some sunshine to get it made into hay, for once we made the right decision.
The first week end in August, we managed to finally get the Ewes finished on the Friday, the hay was nearly ready on Saturday but just needed the sun to make it perfect, the weather forecast was to be good for the Sunday so we decided to take a chance and leave the field until then. So we would get the combine out and service it ready for action; this done we would give it a try just to make sure, after a few minor adjustments stops and starts it was declared ready to go after we get the hay tomorrow
