Christmas 2009

Everyone at Sloe Crafts would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.Thank you everyone who has supported us again this year.

Sorry for not updating the news page sooner, we have been very busy since September.
Son Mark thankfully arrived home safe and sound from Afghanistan much our relief and we had a very proud day at Alnwick Castle watching him receive his medal from the Duke of Northumberland, thank you to all relatives who supported him that day and also everyone who wished him well afterwards.
The Harvest was the main priority, after a doggy start trying to get the hay and the winter barley everything went rather well and just seemed to slot into place. The next harvest was the sloes and what a season it has been, as we were completely out we were very glad to see such a good crop. My first picking was in early September and I picked 12 Kilos in about 45 minutes they were huge nearly as big as Damsons, after that I was out as much as I could between bottling waxing and labelling and other duties on the farm and had some very pleasant days in the Autumn sunshine in the solitude of the lovely Northumbrian country side and some long nights afterwards sorting, washing etc. As you can see by the events list we have been out and about a lot and again the food festivals started in September so we have been kept on our toes.

Life on the farm is now again back into winter mode; cows are back inside and their calves in the other side of the shed to give the mums a rest before they have their next crop.
The Rams are still out but we will take them out from the ewes some time next week depending on the weather, which has been very cold for a week now with the roads lethal as we all know, never seen such
big snow flakes as I battled to get home from Alnwick Christmas Market last Saturday evening and Leslie got stuck on the A697 for a couple of hours needless to say we were blocked in by Sunday Morning as the wind got up and the snow drifted, so Sunday was cancelled what a end to a busy spell. We only have 30 lambs left the rest have all gone fat this year and have been a reasonable price.

We hope you all have a very nice Christmas, as I write this its 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. The fire is lighten, supper is in the oven a nice bottle of red open time to relax for a couple of days, with just the animals to feed.
We threw caution to the wind today and took the dogs down to Alnmouth beach and had a lovely walk along the beach the tide was out, the sun shinning it was very pleasant change.
Mirk does not like travelling in the car(probably because all the other times have been trips to the vet)But we persuaded him to jump in and of we went, once we got there the tail went up and he and Tigger had a great time, I just hope that every time I open the boot of the car now he doesn’t jump in expecting a frolic along the beach, not many working collies get a trip to the seaside.

Merry Christmas & Happy Hogmanay

Cheers
Helen, Leslie and two happy dogs
